The NQF Level 4 Language Art examination focuses on three content areas:
- Close reading proficiency
- Clear writing ability
- Competence in editing and understanding the use of standard written English in context
- The examination includes readings from both academic and workplace environments, showing different levels of difficulty in ideas, structure, and writing style
- Writing tasks, called Extended Response (ER) items, ask examination-takers to analyze given texts and use evidence to support their written analysis
- About 75% of the examination’s readings are from informational sources such as science, social studies, and workplace materials, while the remaining 25% consist of literature texts
- The duration of the examination is 150 minutes
